Uma Thurman can act, she can swordfight, and she can even dance a little. But can she sing? We may find out soon. According to Variety, Thurman is in talks to play the sexy Swedish secretary Ulla opposite Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in the film version of the hit Broadway musical The Producers. It’s a part that, until a few weeks ago, belonged to Nicole Kidman, who dropped out because, she said, she didn’t have time to learn the complicated choreography before she was due in Australia for the January shoot of the romance Eucalyptus.

Not that Thurman will have much more time to learn the steps; The Producers is scheduled to start shooting in February. Thurman would play the part that won Cady Huffman a Tony on Broadway, a bombshell who works for bomb-producing Broadway impresarios Bialystock and Bloom (Lane and Broderick, who are reprising their stage roles). The statuesque Kill Bill star certainly looks the part, and her name is even close, but can she handle the musical elements? Don’t know about the singing, but she and John Travolta did win that dance contest in Pulp Fiction. If Producers director-choreographer Susan Stroman needs Ulla to do the twist or the Batman, Uma’s all set.
