It’s fitting that Julia Roberts, 37, gave birth to twins just as she has two movies coming out. Roberts, who stars in Ocean’s Twelve and Closer, and husband Danny Moder, 35, welcomed Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, their first children, Nov. 28. The kids can enjoy the relative uniqueness of their names: Hazel was ranked the 681st most popular girl’s name in 2003. And Phinnaeus? It hasn’t cracked the top 1,000 in the last decade.
Closer is nothing if not a relationship movie — albeit about the darkest side of love. But is it a date movie? ”Depends on what you want to get out of a date,” laughed Jude Law on the red carpet Nov. 22.
Bruce Willis, 49, filed suit against Revolution Studios Oct. 20 in L.A. for unspecified damages, claiming the studio engaged in ultrahazardous activity during the filming of 2003’s Tears of the Sun. Willis alleges that a blow to the forehead has caused extreme mental, physical, and emotional pain and suffering…. Robert Conrad, 75, star of the ’60s TV show The Wild Wild West, was sentenced to five years’ probation, six months of house arrest, and alcohol counseling, in San Andreas, Calif., Nov. 23 for a March 2003 DUI accident. Reps did not return calls for comment…. Actor Carmine Caridi (NYPD Blue), 70, was ordered by an L.A. federal judge on Nov. 16 to pay $300,000 each to Time Warner Inc. (EW’s parent company) and Sony Corp. after copies of four Oscar screeners sent to him ended up on the Internet in 2002. Caridi has said that he was unaware they were being distributed over the Net…. Financial salesman John Robert, 64, is suing actor Kirk Douglas, 87, for more than $50,000 in lost wages and medical expenses following a fender bender in June 2002 where Robert claims that Douglas clipped his car, resulting in a severe hernia. Douglas’ reps say, ”It’s a frivolous lawsuit.”
American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, 26, was released Nov. 25 from a Birmingham, Ala., hospital after being treated for exhaustion and canceling several shows. Studdard’s lawyer says, ”Right now, the only thing we are focused on is getting Ruben back to good health.”… NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol, 57, and son Charlie, 21, are in stable condition after a Nov. 28 plane crash in Montrose, Colo., and are expected to make a full recovery, say NBC reps. Ebersol’s youngest son, Teddy, 14, and the plane’s pilot and flight attendant died in the crash…. Cheers star Shelley Long, 55, was recently hospitalized in L.A. after a bad reaction to medication. Long’s reps would not confirm the dates of her hospitalization, but say, ”She’s now home and she’s fine.”
