So who ended up winning the box office battle between Christmas With the Kranks and Alexander? Well, neither.

Movie audiences apparently were less interested in the two new releases over the Thanksgiving weekend and instead flocked to two standbys: National Treasure and The Incredibles.

National Treasure, starring Nicolas Cage, logged a second week at No. 1, grossing a fantastic $46.6 million over the five-day holiday weekend, according to studio estimates. After two weeks of release, the heist thriller has earned $87.9 million. Meanwhile, The Incredibles rose one spot to No. 2 with $33.3 million, easily crossing the $200 million mark in its fourth weekend (its total now stands at $214.7 million).

Christmas With the Kranks, starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, did end up performing better than Alexander, premiering with a decent $32.2 million, while two animated films rounded out the top five: The Polar Express took in $27.6 million, and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie made $23.9 million.

That left Oliver Stone’s much-anticipated epic Alexander, starring Colin Farrell, at No. 6, with a fair $21.8 million. In this case, it’s proof that bad reviews can kill all the advance hype in the world.
