Welcome to the North

Subtlety, thy name sure ain’t the Music. The young Brits unleash each number like they’re reaching for the cheap seats at Budokan, and for the first half of Welcome to the North, it makes for a pretty good time — even as they occasionally skid into Spinal Tap territory, lyrically. The mix of loopy, Jane’s Addiction-style psychedelia and old-fashioned stadium rock is galvanizing at first, especially on the title track and ”Bleed From Within,” but by midpoint, it’s merely exhausting.
