Jim Carrey becomes a U.S. citizen. He's still holding on to his Canadian citizenship, though

Make a place in line at the polling place for Jim Carrey. The star is waving the Stars and Stripes now, having become a naturalized American citizen last week, the Canadian Press reports. He’s apparently made good on his plan, which he announced during an appearance last year on Late Night with Conan O’Brien during the show’s weeklong visit to Toronto, to become a U.S. citizen in order to vote in American elections. The move was also a gesture of thanks to the country that transformed him from a penniless immigrant into a famous kajillionaire. ”This country has helped define me and make my dreams come true,” he said in a statement.

However, Carrey is also maintaining his Canadian citizenship. ”I have no intention of giving up my Canadian heritage, and all those who loved and supported me,” the Ontario-born comic actor said. ”My upbringing in Canada made me the person I am. I will always be proud to be a Canadian.” We’re not sure how one goes about keeping a foot in both countries, but if anyone can do it, it’s the rubber-limbed Carrey.
