Q&A with ''Unspeakable'''s Dennis Hopper
The actor tells EW the surprising reason he agreed to appear in such an unspeakably bad movie
Unspeakable
- Movie
In the unspeakably horrid Unspeakable, Hopper plays a sadistic prison warden who rips off his own face. Once we stopped gagging, we wondered: What’s he doing in this disaster?
If someone told you Unspeakable was, um, difficult to figure out, what would you say?
I would say it was that way when I read it….I find myself most of the time trying to take s— and make gold out of it.
So then why choose to do it?
Because the producer and star [Pavan Grover] was very persuasive. He’d had a childhood dream of working with me, and his mother told him if he went through medical school and became a doctor, she would finance his first film. So he did all that, and wanted me to play the warden.
Did you enjoy having his psycho killer Jesse as a prisoner?
I did a movie [2003’s The Keeper] with Asia Argento, where I played a sheriff and kept her prisoner in my basement. That was a lot more interesting.
