Elton John is on a roll. Fresh from blasting Taiwanese photographers as ”rude, vile pigs,” the singer-songwriter turned his fire on Madonna Monday night at a music awards ceremony in London. ”Since when has lip-synching been live?” John said at the Q Awards, expressing his surprise that Madonna had been nominated for best live act, according to wire service reports. ”Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay 75 pounds to see them should be shot.” John added that he was no doubt off Madonna’s Christmas card list.

”Madonna does not lip-synch,” her spokesperson, Liz Rosenberg, responded in a statement, according to AP. ”She sang every note of her Re-Invention Tour live and is not ashamed that she was well paid for her hard work.” Rosenberg added, ”Elton John remains on [Madonna’s] Christmas card list whether he is nice, or naughty.” What’s inexplicable, however, is why devout Kabbalah devotee Madonna would still send out Christmas cards.
