The next chapter in Ashlee Simpson’s autobiography: her move into filmmaking. She’s taking on her first major movie role in Undiscovered, which shoots in November, she tells MTV News. Details of the indie film’s plot and her role in it are sketchy. ”The movie involves music and actors, and all that kind of stuff,” says Simpson, who had a featured role for two years on TV’s 7th Heaven. ”I play an actor, and it’s basically about musicians trying to find their way. There’s a guy who gets too old to be a musician, and all of us become his fan club. So it’s going to be a great movie, and [distributor] Lions Gate does edgier films, so it’s going to be really exciting.”

It seems like the singer’s whole family is making the leap to the big screen. Big sister Jessica, of course, is playing Daisy Duke in the upcoming Warner Bros. adaptation of The Dukes of Hazzard. And according to the Hollywood Reporter, brother-in-law Nick Lachey, fresh from the set of TV’s Charmed, has just been cast as a reluctant jewel thief in the indie heist film The Hard Easy, currently shooting in Los Angeles.
