''Van Helsing'''s Kate Beckinsale ties the knot. She marries her ''Underworld'' director Len Wiseman
How do you cap a weekend in which your movie opens with $54 million to top the box office? If you’re ”Van Helsing”’s Hugh Jackman, you get nominated for a Tony (for his leading role in the Broadway musical ”The Boy From Oz”). If you’re his costar, Kate Beckinsale, you get married. The Associated Press reports that the vampire-fighting vamp tied the knot on Sunday night with Len Wiseman, who directed her in another vampire flick, last year’s ”Underworld.”
In a classic bit of misdirection apparently meant to throw paparazzi off their scent, Wiseman and Beckinsale announced a month ago that they would marry at a lavish ceremony at a Las Vegas hotel; instead, they were wed in the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles. Beckinsale publicist Troy Nankin was tight-lipped on details, except to say that the ceremony was ”intimate” and that the bride wore a Vera Wang gown.
The 30-year-old actress was linked for nearly a decade to fellow U.K. actor Michael Sheen, who costarred with her in ”Underworld.” In 1999, she bore him a daughter, Lily. Beckinsale and Sheen split up in early 2003, a few months after she met Wiseman on the set and three months before she and Wiseman announced their engagement last June. It’s the first marriage for both. No word on where they’re honeymooning, but they’re expected to return to work soon on an ”Underworld” sequel.
