Getting splashed with water during a club gig on Friday night didn’t cool 50 Cent down; in fact, it had the opposite effect. The rapper was performing a surprise show before 1,400 people at the Hippodrome in Springfield, Mass. in the wee hours early Saturday when someone in the audience splashed him with a drink. According to the Springfield Republican, he responded by taking off his gold chain and diving into the crowd. Some 15 to 20 members of his entourage followed, sparking a melee that police had to break up. Two local men were arrested for disturbing the peace.

50 Cent had been performing for just 10 minutes when the brawl began. ”There was a lot of pushing and shoving,” club owner Michael Barrasso told the Republican. 50 himself was armed with a pistol loaded with rubber pellets, but he apparently didn’t use it. Security guards managed to push the rapper and his posse back onto the stage. ”He finished the song, believe it or not,” Barrasso said. ”Then the whole entourage and him just rushed for the exit, got in their cars and left.”

Springfield police Capt. Charles Arpin told the paper it took an hour for cops to disperse the crowd. He said police were also investigating whether a shooting that occurred a block away — a man was wounded in the leg — was related to the incident.
