The third installment of ”The Fast and the Furious” may be Diesel-fueled. Variety reports that Vin Diesel is in talks to return to the franchise in his star-making role as street racer Dominic Toretto, after skipping the sequel ”2 Fast 2 Furious.” (Paul Walker, whose undercover cop character befriended Toretto in the first film and stuck around for the second, won’t be back for the third.) Universal hopes to release the film in the summer of 2005.

A rep for Diesel, who needs a hit these days, told Variety that the actor was hoping to return to the franchise but would have to see a script first. The proposed premise has Toretto, on the lam in Mexico, head to Tokyo to help a pal in trouble with gangsters — and to burn more rubber. How do you say, ”I live my life a quarter of a mile at a time” in Japanese?
