You can stick a stake in ”Angel,” the show’s all but done. But there’s still a chance that the heroic vampire and his slayer inamorata, Buffy Summers, could reunite one last time before ”Angel” goes off the air at the end of this season. Sarah Michelle Gellar tells SciFiWire she’s open to the idea of a final guest stint, ”if everything falls into place, and it feels like the right thing at the time for the right people.”

Buffyverse fans have long hoped she’d repay the favor that ”Angel” star David Boreanaz did for her when ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer” wrapped last year. She backed out of a proposed appearance earlier this year, though she says she wasn’t trying to distance herself from her signature role; rather, she was mourning the death of an aunt. ”It was a very bad time in my personal life. There was a lot going on in my family. And I had to back out,” she says. ”And then all of a sudden, people get really angry, and nobody asks why it didn’t work for you.”

Gellar, who’s currently in Japan shooting the horror remake ”The Grudge,” says: ”I don’t know if I’m even going to make it home before they finish [taping ‘Angel’]. But no one’s contacted me.” In fact, ”Buffy” and ”Angel” creator Joss Whedon has said he’d love to have Gellar as a guest star, though she says he hasn’t approached her with specific script ideas. ”I go back and forth on the idea, especially because ‘Angel’ had such a hard time, in my opinion, always getting out from ‘Buffy”s shadow. And it never got to stand on its own. And I would hate for it to go out being about Buffy. It’ll all depend on if I’m home in time and what the ideas are.”
