Bobby Brown returns to jail on parole violation. Did his alleged battery of Whitney Houston in December send him back behind bars?

Bobby Brown was jailed on Friday for violating his probation on his drunk driving conviction, the DeKalb County, Ga., sheriff’s department told the Associated Press. He was incarcerated after a court hearing, though officials did not specify what the violation was. It could have been the singer’s alleged assault of wife Whitney Houston in December; he was charged at the time with striking her face, and he faces a hearing on that charge on May 5.

Brown was convicted a year ago of drunk driving on a charge stemming from a 1996 incident. His probation in that incident is to last until February 2005. Last August, he was jailed for 14 days for another violation, having allegedly failed to meet the terms of his probation, which required his participation in a risk-reduction program, completion of 240 hours of community service, six months of twice-weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and an order to submit to random alcohol and drug screenings. At the time, his lawyer said Brown had performed community service out of state, but had not checked in with his probation officer because a recent elbow injury had left him bedridden. As for his current stint behind bars, Brown is expected to remain jailed until his next court date, on Feb. 27.
