Zeta-Jones completes the cast of ''Ocean's Twelve''
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Brad Pitt, who didn’t exactly set the box office on fire with their animated romance in ”Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” last summer, will try again, this time in the flesh. Warner Bros. announced Tuesday that she’s joining the cast of ”Ocean’s Twelve,” where she’ll play a love interest for Pitt. The ”Thomas Crown Affair”-like twist is that she’s playing an Interpol agent who’s pursuing Pitt, George Clooney, and most of the gang from ”Ocean’s Eleven” as they plan another big heist.
Zeta-Jones’ casting marks a number of other mini-reunions — with director Steven Soderbergh (who directed her in ”Traffic”), with Julia Roberts (who played her sister in ”America’s Sweethearts”), and with Clooney, her costar in last fall’s ”Intolerable Cruelty.” Also returning from ”Ocean’s Eleven” are Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Andy Garcia, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Elliott Gould, and Carl Reiner. Joining the cast along with Zeta-Jones is French star Vincent Cassel (”Brotherhood of the Wolf,” ”Irreversible”).
The sequel, which starts production on April 12, is expected to be in theaters by the end of the year, even with a globe-trotting shoot that includes locations in Paris, Monte Carlo, Rome, Amsterdam, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Producer Jerry Weintraub tells the Associated Press. ”Steven Soderbergh is the best and fastest director in the world.”
