Ashton Kutcher keeps saying he has no plans to marry Demi Moore, yet for some reason, the supermarket publications have a hard time taking the professional practical joker at his word. ”Ashton is ready to propose!” reads the headline from the latest In Touch magazine, which has him studying Kabbalah and shopping for engagement rings. The Star says they’ll wed in May and plan to have more children, in addition to the three Moore has by ex-husband Bruce Willis.
Kutcher, who has been everywhere this week from the Sundance Film Festival to the New York talk shows promoting his movie ”The Butterfly Effect,” has turned the rumors into an opportunity for more gags. Talking to David Letterman on Tuesday, he reiterated that marriage to Moore was ”not in the datebook,” but he joked that he wanted to set up another older woman-younger man match between Moore’s 9-year-old daughter Tallulah and Letterman’s newborn son Harry.
On Wednesday, when ”Today”’s Katie Couric asked him about Moore, Kutcher fumed, ”See, this is exactly why I wanted to do the interview with Matt [Lauer]. You said you weren’t going to talk about this.” Then he ripped off his clip-on microphone and stormed off the set. Moments later, however, he sat back down and said, ”See, that’s uncomfortable — being punk’d!” But it may have been Couric who did the punking; she told the New York Daily News she was in on the stunt. Referring to Kutcher’s MTV prank show, she said, ”I love ‘Punk’d.’ I’ve always wanted to punk Matt.”
