Here are the People's Choice winners. CBS, Jerry Bruckheimer, and perennial fan favorites Mel and Julia score big in the poll-driven prizes
Sunday’s 30th Annual People’s Choice Awards turned out to be a strong showcase for the network that broadcast the ceremony, CBS, which won several awards, including Favorite Male Television Performer (”Everybody Loves Raymond” star Ray Romano), Favorite Dramatic Series (”CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”), Favorite Reality-Based Program (”Survivor: Pearl Islands”), Favorite New Dramatic Series (”Joan of Arcadia”), and Favorite New Comedy Series, for ”Two and a Half Men,” whose stars, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, were the evening’s emcees. Another big winner was producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who won for ”CSI” and for Favorite Motion Picture (”Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”)
Many of the winner’s were no-shows, including Favorite Female Television Performer Jennifer Aniston (though she sent a videotaped thank-you, and her costars Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc were on hand to accept ”Friends”’ prize for Favorite Comedy Series), Tom Hanks (for Favorite All-Time Performer), Favorite Motion Picture Actress winner Julia Roberts (who has won 11 People’s Choice awards), and tying Favorite Female Musical Perfomers Beyoncé Knowles and Faith Hill (Hill’s husband, Tim McGraw, won Favorite Male Musical Performer).
Winners were chosen by a nationwide Gallup poll, which suggests the reason for such repeat winners as Roberts, Romano, ”Friends,” and Mel Gibson (Favorite Motion Picture Actor), who noted that he ”wasn’t in a motion picture much this year or last year.” Accepting the prize for the sixth time, he thanks fans ”for making me your favorite non-working, thinning-haired actor.”
Other prizes went to ”The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” (Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture), ”Bruce Almighty” (Favorite Comedy Motion Picture), Matchbox Twenty (Favorite Musical Group), Toby Keith’s ”I Love This Bar” (Favorite Music Video), and Oprah Winfrey (Favorite Talk Show Host).
