Well, he’s not the world’s most physical guy, but when Kinks frontman Ray Davies saw his female companion mugged on Sunday night in New Orleans, he gave chase and was shot in the leg for his gallantry, the Associated Press reports. The 59-year-old British rock legend was treated at a local hospital and released, police told AP. The woman, whom neither Davies’ manager nor police have named, was not hurt.

Davies and the woman were walking on the edge of the French Quarter around 8:30 p.m. when two muggers snatched the woman’s purse, police said. Davies ran after them and was shot in the right thigh, a police spokesman told Reuters. Cops captured one suspect and were still seeking the other, the spokesman said.

Last week, Davies, along with fellow British Invasion veteran Eric Clapton, made Queen Elizabeth II’s annual New Year’s honoree list; both rockers were named Commanders of the Order of the British Empire, a notch below being knighted. Given Davies’ display of chivalry, maybe he should be bumped up to full knighthood.
