Elephant Man: John Ricard/Retna

On Good 2 Go, his first major-label release, Jamaican dancehall star Elephant Man aims to duplicate the Kingston-to-Brooklyn crossover success of Sean Paul, without pandering to hip-hop tastes. Famous for his acrobatic, off-the-wall performances (he’s nicknamed Energy God), the gruff-voiced platinum blond translates that live exuberance to CD. With its ping-ponging beats and goofy melody quotes (Survivor’s ”Eye of the Tiger”), ”Good” is unruly and infectious — even if you can’t decipher Elephant Man’s dense patois.
