Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin have pulled off a stunt most celebrities can’t manage: a truly private wedding. The couple, who are expecting a baby next summer, have quietly married, the Santa Barbara County, Calif., clerk-recorder’s office tells the Associated Press. The office couldn’t tell the wire service exactly when the ceremony occurred, though Martin and Paltrow applied for a license last Friday, and AP speculates the wedding occurred that day as well.

British tabloids have suggested that the judge who performed the ceremony was the only witness, and that Paltrow and Martin told friends and family about the nuptials only after they occurred. In keeping with that reported secrecy, the couple’s publicist, Stephen Huvane, told AP that they’re not confirming or denying the wedding.

The pair, who have been dating over the past year, have tried to keep the relationship quiet — Martin refused to utter Paltrow’s name in interviews, even as he praised her film ”Sylvia” as the best movie of the year. Paltrow hasn’t named her favorite album, but we bet it might be called ”A Rush of Blood to the Head.”
