Alicia Keys debuts at No. 1. Her ''Diary'' sells 618,000 copies, the third-best opening week for any artist this year

”You Don’t Know My Name” may be Alicia Keys current hit, but plenty of record buyers did this week. According to SoundScan, some 618,000 of them bought ”The Diary of Alicia Keys,” sending the singer’s second album to the top of the Billboard chart during its first week in stores. That’s nearly three times what ”Songs in A Minor” sold when it debuted in 2001, and it’s the third-best opening week for any artist this year.

While ”Diary” was the only new release in the top 10, holiday shoppers sent older releases rebounding up the charts. Toby Keith’s ”Shock’N Y’all” jumped four spots to finish a distant second to Keys, selling another 213,000 discs. Also up four was Josh Groban’s ”Closer” (No. 3), moving another 188,000 units. ”NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 14” edged up one spot to No. 4 on sales of 186,000. OutKast’s ”Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” bounced five places up to No. 5, selling 178,000 copies.

Also rising was ”The Very Best of Sheryl Crow,” up six to No. 9. Slipping were Hilary Duff’s ”Metamorphosis” (down two to No. 6), Britney Spears’ ”In the Zone” (sliding four slots to No. 7), No Doubt’s ”The Singles 1992-2003” (falling six spots to No. 8), and Jay-Z’s ”The Black Album,” last week’s chart topper, plunging nine places to No. 10.
