Time Warner (EW’s parent company) announced Nov. 24 that an investor group led by ex-Vivendi Universal honcho Edgar Bronfman Jr. will buy Warner Music Group for $2.61 billion, essentially creating one of the world’s largest independent music companies. Upon the deal’s close, the group will take over Warner Bros.’, Elektra’s, and Atlantic Records’ artist rosters, which include Madonna, Metallica, and Kid Rock.
