A curious case, Puddle of Mudd. Basically a faceless hard-rock quartet with one foot mired in the grunge of a decade ago, they nonetheless managed to sell 5 million copies of their ’01 debut, ”Come Clean.” This sophomore disc offers more of the same, occasionally varying the flavor with splashes of wah-wah or acoustic guitar. Nirvana (or even Soundgarden) they ain’t, but if it’s lowest-common-denom heavy rawk you crave, ”Life” awaits.
