Jessica Simpson signs sitcom deal with ABC. Dad/''Newlyweds'' producer Joe Simpson will produce the funny-on-purpose show
Jessica Simpson will soon be working for a network she should find easy to spell. As on MTV’s ”Newlyweds,” she’ll be funny, but on purpose this time. ABC announced Friday it had signed the singer/actress/butt of dumb-blonde jokes to a sitcom deal. Like ”Newlyweds,” the ABC show will be produced by her dad, Joe Simpson.
”Jessica has infectious energy and unmistakable star quality,” ABC Entertainment President Susan Lyne said in a statement. ”She has a built-in fanbase in both music and television, which is a great jumping-off point for us. We’re looking forward to developing the ideal showcase for her considerable talents.”
Simpson has some TV acting experience, having guested on ”That ’70s Show” and ”The Twilight Zone.” No word if her new show will have roles for husband and ”Newlyweds” costar Nick Lachey or for younger sister Ashlee Simpson, who plays Cecilia on ”7th Heaven.”
