1. The original 1974 gorefest cost less than $150,000 and eventually grossed nearly $30 million; the current remake, with a reported budget of $9.5 million, earned close to $30 mil its first week.

2. The film — along with ”Psycho,” ”The Silence of the Lambs,” ”Three on a Meathook,” and ”Deranged” — was influenced by the crimes of 1950s serial killer Ed Gein, who dismembered, ate, and wore the skins of his victims.

3. The actor hired to play Leatherface in the new ”Massacre” was replaced because he wasn’t strong enough to tote the saw.
