The Pearl Islands? Never heard of ’em. And why the heck did they name the tribes Drake and Morgan? We did the homework.

1. Panama’s 183-island Archipelago de las Perlas begat the 500-year-old La Peregrina pearl, a royal heirloom now owned by Elizabeth Taylor.

2. While circumnavigating the globe in the late 1500s, Sir Francis Drake (right) plundered Spanish settlements for Queen Elizabeth I.

3. Welsh buccaneer Sir Henry Morgan developed a violent reputation after raiding Panama City in 1671.
