The Passion Of Reverend Nash
Rev. Jordanna Nash, who sports jangly jewelry and wears shorts under her robe, has a style that seems more Janis Joplin than religious mentor. But Basch gives her dynamic protagonist real spiritual weight: Recently separated from her husband, grieving the loss of her two infant children, Nash has retreated to the Connecticut town in which her sister and nephews live. The reverend’s unwaveringly thoughtful care for her ministry makes her seem, at first, almost unbelievably perfect — until Basch begins to unravel her heroine’s frailty. Ultimately, Nash is not a page-turner, but a wise, warmhearted look at a woman’s search for faith.
