It’s not surprising that much of the material on this rising star’s album concerns fatherless, abused, or marginalized children. The North Carolinian grew up in foster homes, having witnessed horrific violence in his own family (”The Rabbit”), and became a prison guard before launching a music career (”Blue and Brown”). Wayne sings with pop-star stylings, but his bruised songs throb with stone-cold truths.
