Angelina Jolie joins Colin Farrell in ''Alexander.'' She'll play the Macedonian king's mom
At 28, Angelina Jolie is only a year older than Colin Farrell, but in her next movie, she’s playing his mom. Variety reports that Oliver Stone has cast her as Olympia, mother of Farrell’s Alexander the Great, in the director’s upcoming epic ”Alexander.” The Oscar winner will play the conqueror’s mother over the course of three decades, from his birth through his reign. She’ll shoot her scenes this fall in Morocco and London, Variety reports.
Maybe Stone got the casting idea from Baz Lurhmann, whose competing Alexander biopic is due in theaters in 2005, a year after Stone’s. His Olympia is Nicole Kidman, 36, who has just eight years on her movie son, Leonardo DiCaprio.
Jolie, whose ”Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” opens this week, has another ”Great” historical role coming up; next spring, she’ll play Russian czarina Catherine the Great in ”Love and Honor.”
