Platinum-selling singer Gwen Stefani will make her movie debut in the role of Hollywood’s original platinum blonde, Jean Harlow. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the No Doubt frontwoman is one of several big names recently signed on to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in ”The Aviator,” Martin Scorsese’s biopic about aircraft pioneer and movie mogul Howard Hughes.

Also on board is ”Pearl Harbor”’s Kate Beckinsale, as screen siren Ava Gardner. The role of Katharine Hepburn, which Nicole Kidman was said to be eyeing, will go instead to fellow Aussie Cate Blanchett. No word on whether Jude Law is still up for the role of swashbuckling actor Errol Flynn. Scorsese, his ”Gangs” star DiCaprio, and the rest of the Hughes crew are scheduled to begin shooting ”Aviator” next month in Montreal.
