Still sounding vital, though understandably weathered, some 40 years after their peaks, the great soul artists reunited on this soundtrack are testament to the revitalizing strength of deep song. Performances from Wilson Pickett and Rufus Thomas may cry out for corresponding visuals, but stirring tracks such as Jerry Butler’s ”For Your Precious Love,” Sam Moore’s ”When Something Is Wrong With My Baby,” and Ann Peebles’ ”Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” stand proudly on their own.
