Harcourt’s largely ignored full-length debut, Here Be Monsters, was a collection of sparkling pop gems that were, for better or worse, yoked to his rambling (and sometimes impenetrable) musings. One year later, the Brit bard continues to sing his body eclectic. Luckily, Harcourt has been blessed with an unerring melodic sensibility — melancholic, pensive, and wistful, his songs recall both the musical inventiveness of Captain Beefheart and the mopey poetry of Elliot Smith.
