Get ready for ''Lord of the Rings: The Musical''!
The Lord of the Rings (musical)
If you?ve always wanted to hear the sound a singing Hobbit makes, you?re in luck. Producers Kevin Wallace and Saul Zaentz are bringing a musical production of J.R.R. Tolkien?s ”Lord of the Rings” trilogy to the London stage in the spring of 2005.
Not unlike the ongoing film trilogy by Peter Jackson, the production is expected to be lavish: The $13 million show will feature a cast of 50 and a full orchestra. Wallace promised Reuters that the musical will ”stimulate audiences? imaginations in a way they?ve never felt before.” No word on whether said stimulation might include a slimy Gollum prancing through the crowd à la ?Cats.?
Though the debut will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the trilogy?s publication, it will come long after ”The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” hits theaters Dec. 17. After all, you can’t teach Gimli the Dwarf to hit those high notes overnight now, can you?
