Although it’s downright depressing that rockers feel compelled to record standards once they hit a certain age, Scaggs pulls off his ”maturity” project with grace and style. There’s always been plenty of the crooner in Scaggs, and here the leisurely tempos and late-night mood that couch these time-honored classics (”What’s New?,” ”Never Let Me Go,” ”I Should Care”) suit his laid-back delivery just fine.
