Brooke Shields is suddenly a mommy. The New York Daily News reports that the actress gave birth to a daughter on Thursday at a private hospital suite in New York. It’s the first child for Shields, 37, and her husband, TV scribe Chris Henchy. No word on the baby’s name or birth weight. Shields has said she wants to maintain her daughter’s privacy and not have her ”paraded” in front of the cameras — unlike her own mother, who launched Brooke’s modeling career when she was barely a year old.

It’s been a month of extreme highs and lows for the former ”Suddenly Susan” star. Her father died three weeks ago. On the plus side, former ”Spin City” writer Henchy learned this week that ABC is putting his new sitcom on the fall schedule. Called ”I’m With Her” and inspired by his own life, it’s about an ordinary guy (on the show, a high school teacher) dating a famous actress.
