Zanes was just a teenager in the 1980s when he played guitar with his brother Dan for Boston indie-rock gods the Del Fuegos. He lived the academic life for a while after that (earning a Ph.D.) and shares his extracurricular romances here in the form of a beautifully crafted pop-music scrapbook — a smart and funny chronicle of the love and torment he shared with ex-girlfriends. A gifted vocal and melodic Zelig, Zanes treats each song like a new relationship and an opportunity to shift into another persona.
