BIRTHS On Jan. 30, Claudia Schiffer, 31, and producer husband Matthew Vaughn (Swept Away), 31, welcomed their first child, 7-pound Caspar Matthew De Vere Drummond…. On Jan. 25, ex- Providence doc Melina Kanakaredes, 35, and chef hubby Peter Constantinides, 36, had an 8-pound girl, Karina Eleni. She joins Zoe, 2.

AILING On Jan. 29, doctors in Santa Monica performed surgery on Arnold Schwarzenegger, 55, after he injured his rotator cuff last fall performing a stunt for T3: Rise of the Machines. He left the hospital the following day and will wear a sling for three to four weeks — which isn’t expected to delay T3’s July release.

ARRESTS Hip-hopper Juvenile (ne Terius Gray), 27, and three companions were arrested Jan. 29 and charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine after New Orleans police pulled over their rented Lincoln Town Car on a routine stop. A search allegedly turned up two still-burning joints and a small amount of cocaine. A rep for the rapper, who has since been released on bail, had no comment…. Recently booted Bachelorette contestant Greg Todtman, 28 — described on the show as an ”importer” — was arrested Jan. 31 at New York City’s JFK airport boarding an L.A.-bound flight and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was given a ticket and released without bail. Todtman, whose rep could not be reached, has said the substance was codeine…. Rocker Courtney Love, 38, was arrested Feb. 4 at London’s Heathrow airport for allegedly verbally abusing the cabin crew and refusing to sit down during a flight from L.A. At press time, no charges had been filed. Her rep could not be reached.

COURTS On Jan. 28, a San Francisco appeals court ruled that singer-guitarist Al Jardine, 60, can’t use the ”Beach Boys” name, which is jointly owned by Jardine, Mike Love, 61, Brian Wilson, 60, and the estate of Carl Wilson. Jardine had previously toured as Beach Boys Family and Friends…. The Doors are also facing some intraband strife: Drummer John Densmore, 58, filed suit Feb. 4 in L.A. to stop keyboardist Ray Manzarek, 63, and guitarist Robbie Krieger, 57, from using the name ”the Doors” for the band they recently formed with Ian Astbury, 40, formerly of the Cult, and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, 50. A rep for the new band says they planned to call themselves the Doors for the 21st Century, and had no further comment…. After being repeatedly rebuffed in requests to interview Aretha Franklin, 60, about the Oct. 25 arson that destroyed her house, Michigan authorities subpoenaed Franklin Jan. 30. Police say she is not a suspect…. On Jan. 31, Sotheby’s sued Michael Jackson, 44, claiming the King of Pop bid $1.3 million for two paintings in October, then refused to pay. Jackson’s rep claims the star offered to return the paintings and is ”surprised” by the suit.

DEATHS Latin-jazz giant Ramon ”Mongo” Santamaria, 85, who wrote 1959’s ”Afro Blue” and performed the 1963 hit ”Watermel- on Man,” of undisclosed causes, Feb. 1, in Miami.
