”High School Reunion” is one of 2003’s wildest new reality shows

#4

PREMIERE 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5

WHAT IT IS Producer Mike Fleiss (”The Bachelor,” ”The Will”) strikes again. This time he’s gathered up 17 former classmates from the Chicago-area Oak Park/River Forest High School class of 1992, stuck them together in Maui for two weeks, and let human nature run wild. The WB claims viewers will see six old scores settled, three new loves blossom, two knockouts, and one marriage proposal. And you thought your reunion was a big deal because the homecoming queen became a raging alcoholic. Just in case we can’t keep the characters straight, the show provides conveniently catty nicknames for them: ”The Chubby Cheerleader,” ”The Pipsqueak,” and, best of all, ”The Bitchy Girl.”

WHY WE CARE Because, like, we’ve all been to high school, duh. Fleiss made sure every conceivable archetype is represented. So no matter what kind of teen freak you were, there’s someone to root for. (Outcasts seem to take up a disproportionate part of the cast — there’s ”The Nerd,” ”The Misfit,” AND ”The Loner.”). Think of it as ”The Breakfast Club” 20 years later.

THE VERDICT High school geeks, revenge is thine.
