TWAIN’S WORLD

Sales-wise, Shania Twain couldn’t have picked a more accurate title for her new CD. Up! went home with 874,000 fans for a No. 1 debut, dwarfing the 172,000 first-week sales of her 1997 disc, Come On Over. Of course, that record stayed on the charts for much of the last five years, transforming the country crooner into a megastar. Shania’s Up-pity week kept NOW 11 from the top spot, though the set still wrangled 316,000 hit-hungry fans. Ja Rule’s Last Temptation lured 238,000 Ja-colytes to stores, besting a new CD from matchbox twenty (178,000) and the debut from Rage Against the Machine-Soundgarden hybrid Audioslave (162,000).
