''Adaptation,'' ''About Schmidt'' lead Broadcast Critics nominations. ''The Hours'' also a contender for the Critics' Choice Awards

”Adaptation” and ”About Schmidt” each scored four nominations for the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Critics’ Choice Awards, announced Tuesday. The two films are among 10 contenders for Best Picture, with winners scheduled to be announced Jan. 17 in a ceremony to be televised the next day on E!. Despite the honors for ”Adaptation,” star Nicolas Cage was omitted from the Best Actor picks, which did include ”Schmidt”’s Jack Nicholson.

The awards boast a newfangled category this year, Best Digital Acting performance, in which Yoda will face off against ”Harry Potter”’s Dobby and ”The Two Towers”’ Gollum. Oscar, take note.
