‘MILE’-STONE

It was the Eminem show all over again this weekend, as the angry one’s 8 Mile rapped its way to the top of the box office. Despite a final tally that fell $3 million short of Universal’s initial estimates, the rhymefest scored the second-best R-rated opening ever after 2001’s Hannibal. Meanwhile, smaller releases held their own: Frida jumped to No. 10, while Michael Moore’s Bowling docu has already beat his own Roger & Me. And news was just swell over at Focus Features, where Todd Haynes’ 1950s-set Far From Heaven earned a (melo)dramatic $35,213 per-site average.
