How can I blast thee, let me count the ways: Quake III Arena, Counter-Strike, and now, UT 2003 — the latest, though not greatest, entry in the first-person-shooter sweepstakes. The game delivers plenty of eye candy — from sprawling outdoor vistas to blasts of mutagenic sludge — but doesn’t live up to the expectations of shooters in this post-Halo world. Still, multiplayer fans (who have the high-powered hardware) will dig the new arenas and modes like Bombing Run, a pyrotechnic spin on Capture the Flag. Me, I’m waiting for Doom III.
