‘LICKS’ AND STONES

Who’d win in a fight — Santa Claus or Godzilla? A similar fantasy battle played out atop the charts this week, with the Stones and Elvis in mortal combat. The King retained his throne, despite dropping to 337,000 copies. Mick and Keith’s 40 Licks found 310,000 fans ready to French-kiss, a competitive number for a two-CD set. Some less long-in-the-tooth titans joined the melee: Xzibit marked the No. 3 spot with 156,000 units, while 146,000 American Idol viewers voted with their pocketbooks. Good Charlotte rolled a lucky No. 7 with 117,000 sold, and Twisted Angel LeAnn Rimes nearly came up with devil numbers — 66K — for her No. 12 image makeover.
