If late September promises a hefty load of major releases, the first two weeks of the month were nearly devoid of ’em, due in part to limited promotional opportunities circa 9/11. Softer holdover fare made a strong showing this week, with the Dixie Chicks’ Home continuing to rule the roost with another 367,000 units hatched, and the biggest leap belonging to Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me, which rose to No. 6 with sales of 75,000. Jones’ CD is only the second release from jazz’s Blue Note label to go platinum, and at this rate, double platinum seems inevitable–along with multiple Grammy noms. Another platinum act, John Mayer, cracked the top 15 for the first time.
