No word on whether they tied cans and streamers to the bumper of the Mystery Machine, but ”Scooby-Doo” costars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. did tie the knot on Sunday, their publicist tells E! The wedding, held at an undisclosed location in Mexico for just family and friends (no paparazzi or other bloodsuckers invited), found the bride wearing a Vera Wang gown and the groom wearing a custom-made linen suit. It was the first wedding for Gellar, 25, and Prinze, 26.

Only the timing and location of the wedding were surprises. The ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star and the son of ”Chico and the Man” star Freddie Prinze Sr. met on the set of another horror franchise, the 1997 movie ”I Know What You Did Last Summer.” By 2000, the slayer and the teen-comedy heartthrob were a couple. They announced their engagement in April 2001, at Gellar’s 24th birthday party. If anything, their 16-month engagement seemed to drag on so long that, when ”Scooby” costar Matthew Lillard jokingly referred to them as ”newlyweds” while promoting the canine caper in June, many reporters assumed that they’d eloped.

Now that they’ve finally wed, no word on where they’ll honeymoon. But they won’t be gone long. Gellar will be back in Hollywood soon to shoot the next (and possibly last) season of ”Buffy,” followed by a possible starring role in the comedy ”A Semester Abroad” next spring. Both Gellar and Prinze are slated to do voice work on the animated fairy tale ”Happily N’Ever After” before heading back to the van to shoot the ”Scooby-Doo” sequel next year.
