Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Compared with the sometimes awkward mix of comedy and horror of the original, Gremlins 2: The New Batch is far more successful in its laugh-to-scream ratio, thanks to grander creature designs by Rick Baker and a comic turn by John Glover as a Donald Trump stand-in named Clamp. The extras are mainly old making-of promos, but new commentaries — by Dante, the producers, and the cast — hold fresher tidbits. Apex of honesty: Dante admits he prefers the sequel, but says he ”can’t knock” the original because ”it’s the only [movie] I ever get checks from.”
