''8 Mile'' is a must-see for fall 2002
WHY WE CAN’T WAIT After more than a few rumors about off-screen romance between Eminem and his onscreen cohort Brittany Murphy, it’s possible that real love could translate into onscreen chemistry. Also, we’ve seen the movie debuts of Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, and a few of the ‘N Sync Boys and we’re longing for somebody, anybody from the ”TRL” generation — even Eminem — to succeed.
SOURCE MATERIAL Described as a story about a white guy from Detroit dealing with his demons through rap music, this project was screaming biopic from the get-go. But director Curtis Hanson (”L.A. Confidential”) is making one thing clear: This isn’t the Marshall Mathers Story. ”It’s about the world Eminem came from — the Detroit hip-hop scene,” Hanson clarifies.
