With Corin Tucker’s screechy vocals, S-K’s angular rock tends to be a love-it-or-hate-it proposition. On this sixth LP, One Beat, there’s lots for the lovers, plus some surprises that might win over a few haters. On ”Sympathy,” Tucker switches to a bluesy coo. Brisk horns add big-band verve to ”Step Aside,” which finds the usually dour frontgrrrl moaning ”Why don’t you shake your tail for peace and love?” Why not, indeed.
