XXX easily took this week’s top spot, yet fell short of the $50 million opening that some industry analysts anticipated, while Spy Kids 2 and Clint’s latest, Blood Work, exhibited symptoms of anemia. Suddenly, this summer’s box office is starting to resemble the Dow Jones, as totals fail to match last year’s for the fourth straight weekend and steep declines (51 percent for Signs) conjure memories of last summer’s megashrugs. If Vin Diesel can’t save us, our best, last hope may lie with the ladies of Blue Crush.
