Ex-Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt main man Farrar employed acoustic textures to deepen the resonance of the stately roots-rock tunes on his 2001 solo debut, Sebastopol, and maintains that direction on this five-track spin-off. While Beck producer Tom Rothrock’s remix of ”Damn Shame” awkwardly grafts electro-boogie gimmickry onto Farrar’s plaintive melancholy, the other four cuts, all previously unreleased, make a strong case for Farrar’s dusky songcraft.
