After the past few bring-the-house-down performances, the adorable Texan’s rendition of ”Walk on By” (shown) left plenty of her fans wanting to walk on by and choose a new Burt Bacharach song. Though it would be near impossible for Kelly to sound bad, it didn’t even look like she thought she hit the right note with this song choice. Randy said it ”wasn’t [her] greatest” while Simon consoled her by saying ”I truly, truly believe you are going to become a huge star at the end of this show.”
RJ showed his impressive vocal range in ”Arthur’s Theme” and actually held his own tonight which is a huge accomplishment considering his competition. Plus, he’s getting better at dismissing criticism as evidenced by the wrist-flick brushoff of Simon. Still, Simon’s damning praise of ”It was okay. It was alright” seems to resonate louder than RJ’s voice.
Was there a viewer watching who did not get goosebumps listening to Tamyra’s near-flawless performance of ”A House is Not a Home?” Randy was completely off-key with his remark that she ”sounded a little nervous” but at least Paula and Simon set the record straight. ”You hit the ball out of the park tonight,” a teary Paula said, while Simon compared Tamyra to Celine Dion and Whitney Houston and gushed ”it was one of the best performances on TV I have ever seen.”
